Software Engineer

Are you an experienced Software Engineer looking for a new challenge where your work truly makes a difference? At CHDR, you’ll apply your technical expertise to support innovative clinical drug research, directly driving scientific progress and innovative drug development. If you enjoy ownership, value collaboration, and want to combine deep technical work with a clear sense of purpose, CHDR is the place for you.

This position is only open to candidates who are currently residing in the Netherlands. Applications from candidates living outside the Netherlands will not be considered.

What does the role look like?

As part of the development team, you will help enhance Promasys, a core data platform for clinical trial management. You will design, build, and maintain backend services and Flutter-based applications that enable accurate and efficient clinical research. Working closely with researchers and other stakeholders, you will translate user needs into robust, scalable software solutions.

How CHDR supports you

We offer you a one-year contract for a minimum of 32 hours per week, with the prospect of a permanent contract. The associated employment conditions (based on a 40-hour workweek) include:

  • A salary ranging from €4725,00 to €6490,00 depending on your experience.
  • The possibility to grow into a Senior Software Engineer role, subject to mutual agreement.
  • A solid pension scheme through the ABP pension fund, 8% holiday allowance, and a year-end bonus ranging from a minimum of 3.8% to a maximum of 12%.
  • 25 vacation days per year plus an additional Diversity Day.
  • Opportunities for personal development through training or certifications, fully funded by CHDR.
  • CHDR is easily accessible, with Leiden Central Station just a 10-minute walk from our office. Public transport costs are reimbursed up to 100%, or you can purchase an (electric) bicycle at a reduced rate.

CHDR also contributes to a pleasant working environment by hosting weekly Friday afternoon drinks and organizing an annual Christmas dinner and a trip to the Ardennes, further strengthening team cohesion. In addition, CHDR offers free access to OpenUp, an online platform focused on mental health, resilience, and personal development, featuring masterclasses, group sessions, and one-on-one coaching. This benefit is also available to family members.

What you bring to CHDR

This role requires a strong problem-solving mindset and the ability to think analytically when troubleshooting issues or optimizing existing systems. You will collaborate across disciplines, communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and contribute as a team player who is motivated by delivering reliable, high-impact solutions. In addition, you will support server environments and continuously improve development workflows to ensure long-term platform stability and quality. Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with Flutter and Dart (preferred).
  • Experience in server-side development using Java and Hibernate.
  • Practical understanding of object-oriented and functional programming concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases.

  • Comfortable working with Git, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with OpenEdge ABL is a plus.
